To me Tottenham has been inconsistent Postecoglou

Ange Postecoglou, the head coach of Tottenham.

Feels he is more to blame than his players for the team’s patchy start to the season.

Spurs lost to Ipswich 2-1 on Sunday, their fifth defeat in 11 Premier League games this season. They now sit in 10th place, 12 points behind leaders Liverpool.

After winning their first three games in the competition.

They lost to Galatasaray in the Europa League on Thursday, but they advanced to the Carabao Cup quarterfinals.

Tottenham has won two games this season and five games overall, which is their longest winning streak in the league.

Postecoglou told BBC Sport, “It is just down to me,” in response to a question concerning the reasons behind their inconsistency. The players are not giving me consistent performances.

“I have to take care of that. That is how it generally goes because I am the one in charge.

“I accept responsibility when their performance falls short of expectations.”

He responded, “No, I think it is been our season so far,” when asked if the emotion was new by Sky Sports. It has been incredibly erratic.

After goals from Sam Szmodics and Liam Delap, Tottenham went down again and trailed 2-0 at halftime.

Spurs had optimism thanks to Rodrigo Bentancur’s header, but they were unable to force an equalizer.

In 15 home Premier League games in 2024, Spurs have now lost 1-0 for the thirteenth time.

The only teams to fall more down at home in a single calendar year are Spurs themselves in 1994 (14).

Ipswich in 1994 (14) and Crystal Palace in 2017 (14) as well.

Postecoglou said on BBC Radio 5 Live, “There are numerous reasons [to why it has happened].”

“Compared to prior times, today was a little different. We were far too inactive.

“It takes a lot to get it back if you give the opposition that great of an advantage.”

Postecoglou stated that “I always win things in my second season” at a club following Tottenham’s loss to Arsenal in the North London derby in September.

He also stated that he “definitely” believed Spurs could contend for a trophy this season.
