Queens Park Rangers defeated visiting Blackburn Rovers in the 76th minute thanks to a decisive goal from Jack Colback. Which moved them three points off of the Championship play-off spots.

Rangers started their comeback since December with their first points in three games thanks to a first-time goal from substitute. Colback from the edge of the 18-yard box in a fierce, often end-to-end match.

Tyrhys Dolan’s penalty eight minutes after halftime gave. Blackburn the equalizer after they had been behind to Michael Frey’s header in the fifth minute.

Fifth-placed Both West Bromwich Albion and Middlesbrough. Who have a game in hand and a significant goal differential advantage over John Eustace’s team. Are still one point ahead of Blackburn.

Ilias Chair was a constant menace for QPR. And when teammate striker Frey flicked in his inswinging free-kick from the left for his seventh goal of the season. He provided his fourth assist in seven games.

Four minutes later, Dolan was denied an equalizer after QPR failed to clear Makhtar Gueye’s delivery.

Allowing Paul Nardi to make a spectacular save on his close-range attempt.

When Aynsley Pears pawed Chair’s looping strike from a distance around a post. QPR nearly doubled their lead.

The team that finished last on November 26 came very near again when. Paul Smyth missed a shot from just outside the box. Chair then followed suit after deftly twisting to get room to fire.

After Koki Saito fouled Callum Brittain. Dolan had a chance to score from the penalty spot. His first goal in 20 games, making those misses look costly.

Colback put QPR firmly back in ahead via Pears’ fingertips for the midfielder’s first goal since last February after Blackburn’s blustery start to the second half slowed.

Blackburn had lost their previous five away league games and scored two fewer goals than any other team in the top half of the league this season, while QPR is in 13th place and has won five of their eight league games in 2025.

Marti Cifuentes, the head of QPR, told BBC Radio London:

“Blackburn demonstrated their dominance in the final third, which is why they are so high on the rankings. We talked a lot about how excellent their transition staff is. In that way, we demonstrated teamwork, vigor, and dedication. The fans’ enthusiasm was amazing and really beneficial to us.

“The first half was really strong for us. At halftime, we stated that we had the opportunity to score another goal.

It is time to keep going. Although the beginning of the second was more difficult, we performed admirably all around.

“I am really happy for Jack. Because of his ailments, he has had a challenging season. It was a great performance, and we really needed his experience when the squad was having trouble.

“We wanted to improve on our 56 points from the previous season. We should not go too far, in my opinion.”

John Eustace, the Blackburn manager, told BBC Radio Lancashire:

“When they up the tempo here, it is a pretty difficult place to be. Although we had some wonderful times, we simply lacked the necessary clinical skills. We gave away two pretty careless goals.

“We were not good enough in the beginning, but we have been excellent defensively at set pieces. Before the second half, I spoke briefly with the lads, but they also worked it out on their own.

“The second goal’s execution was incredibly bad. We need to risk our lives to keep the ball out of the net, and we should have performed better in the second phase of the attack.

“We would have won 1-1 and a tie would have been a fair outcome. There are fifteen games left, and we cannot turn back time. We must learn to avoid putting the ball in the net.
